Fire & security systems for hotels

Fire and security compliance for hospitality venues

Ireland welcomed almost 6.6 million overseas visitors in 2024, with close to half of all foreign visitors staying in hotels. That level of trust places a significant duty of care on everyone responsible for a hospitality property. Guests are often unfamiliar with the building, reliant on clear evacuation routes, and entirely dependent on the venue to keep them safe.

Under the Fire Services Act 1981, all commercial premises in Ireland are required to have adequate fire detection and alarm systems in place. Part B of the Building Regulations goes further, requiring that hotels and hospitality venues have functioning alarm systems, fire detection, and safe exit routes. This regulation places the legal responsibility for compliance squarely with the owner or operator. The Building Regulations 1997 to 2021 also set out requirements for emergency lighting across commercial premises.

The consequences of non-compliance are serious. Beyond the legal and financial exposure, a venue that cannot demonstrate proper fire and security provision risks voiding its insurance and, in a worst-case scenario, being ordered to close. For a hotel, that is not an operational inconvenience. It is a business-ending event.

Stalwart works with clients operating in the hospitality sector across Ireland and understands the compliance environment hotels operate in. We design and install systems that meet every relevant requirement and keep working the way they should, year after year.

Our fire and security systems for hotels and hospitality

We provide a full range of fire and security systems designed to meet the specific demands of hotels, guesthouses, and serviced apartments across Ireland.

Fire Detection Systems

Hotels require fire detection systems capable of covering large, multi-floor buildings with high overnight occupancy. We install automatic fire detection, manual call points, and alarm panels suited to the scale and layout of hospitality properties, and provide regular servicing and certification in line with the Fire Services Act 1981 and Building Regulations requirements.

Emergency Lighting Systems

Emergency lighting is a legal requirement in commercial premises and is particularly critical in multi-floor hotel environments, where guests may be disoriented during an evacuation. Stalwart installs and services emergency lighting systems to Building Regulations standard, ensuring safe routes are clearly lit when main power fails.

CCTV Installation

From entrances and lobbies to corridors, car parks, and back-of-house areas, a well-designed CCTV system protects both guests and staff. Our installations deter theft and antisocial behaviour, support incident investigation, and are fully GDPR-compliant.

Access Control Systems

Controlling access to guest floors, back-of-house areas, server rooms, and staff-only zones is a core part of hotel security management. We design access control systems that give the right people access to the right areas, and create a clear audit trail for your security records.

Gate & barrier automation

For hotels with significant car parks, service entrances, or external grounds, gate and barrier automation provides controlled access for vehicles and visitors. It reduces the risk of unauthorised access to the property and supports a more professional arrival experience for guests.

Monitoring & Maintenance

Hotel fire and security systems must be operational around the clock, every day of the year. Our monitoring and maintenance service provides regular scheduled servicing across all your systems, with 24/7 emergency callout if something needs immediate attention. One maintenance contract covers everything, with a single point of contact for all queries

Integrators for centralised system management

For hotels managing fire detection, CCTV, access control, intruder alarms, and emergency lighting across a large or multi-site property, Stalwart’s Integrator platform brings every system into a single, centralised dashboard. Full visibility across all areas of the property, simplified compliance reporting, and a system designed specifically around the layout and operational requirements of your venue.

Why hotels across Ireland choose Stalwart

Stalwart is one of a small number of providers in Ireland that installs and manages both fire and security systems to a professional standard. For hotels, that distinction matters. A single provider means one contract, one point of accountability, and systems designed to work together from day one — with no risk of gaps between contractors.

We hold PSA Licensed, Amtivo Certified, and EQA Certified accreditations. The Private Security Authority licence is the statutory requirement for security contractors operating in Ireland. The Amtivo and EQA certifications signal independently verified quality standards. For procurement and facilities teams, these are not box-ticking credentials; they are the baseline for choosing a contractor you can rely on.

Our engineers are available 24/7, nationwide. Hospitality venues cannot afford downtime, and our callout service reflects that. Whether you need an emergency response or routine annual servicing, you will always have someone to contact.

With over 20 years of experience across the commercial and hospitality sector, we understand the environments we work in. Every system we design is built around the specific layout, occupancy levels, and operational requirements of the property.

FAQs

Yes. Under the Fire Services Act 1981, all commercial premises in Ireland, including hotels and guesthouses, are required to have adequate fire detection and alarm systems in place. Part B of the Building Regulations sets out further requirements specific to the scale and use of the building.

The owner or operator is legally responsible for ensuring the premises meets all fire safety requirements under the Fire Services Act 1981 and the Building Regulations. This includes having functioning fire detection and alarm systems, safe exit routes, and emergency lighting in place.

Fire alarm systems in commercial premises should be serviced at a minimum of twice per year in line with IS 3218, the Irish standard for fire detection and alarm systems. Hotels with high occupancy or complex layouts may require more frequent inspection. Stalwart provides scheduled servicing contracts to keep your systems certified and compliant.

Yes. Emergency lighting is a legal requirement in commercial premises under the Building Regulations 1997 to 2021. In a hotel environment, where guests may be unfamiliar with the layout, properly installed and maintained emergency lighting is critical for safe evacuation.

Most hotel properties benefit from a combination of CCTV across public-facing and back-of-house areas, access control for restricted zones, and intruder alarm coverage for areas not staffed around the clock. Larger properties often integrate all systems through a centralised platform for easier management and compliance reporting. The right combination depends on the size, layout, and operational profile of the property.
